Brazilian Culture and Flavor: My Experience Teaching Chicken Stroganoff at The Somerville Public Library.
June 28, 2025The Fourth of July, Independence Day in the U.S., is always a joyful time filled with family gatherings, fireworks, barbecues — and great food. This year, we had the pleasure of joining a local fair right after the holiday, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience for Golden Empadas Co!
Our authentic Brazilian empadas caught the attention of everyone walking by. It was heartwarming to see so many Americans curious to try something new. Kids loved the look of them, adults were surprised by the flavor, and many came back for more. One little girl even said: “I love this pie!” — moments like that make it all worth it.
One fun thing that always happens is people ask:
“Is this an empanada?”
I love explaining: “No, this is called empada — with a ‘D’. That’s what we call this delicious snack in Brazil.”

While an empanada is typically Spanish or Latin and has a different style of dough and filling, the Brazilian empada is something unique. It’s buttery, flaky, and filled with rich, savory fillings made from traditional recipes passed down from grandma’s kitchen.
This kind of cultural exchange is one of the most rewarding parts of our work. Sharing a little piece of Brazilian culinary tradition, and seeing people fall in love with it, is what fuels us every day.
Our best-sellers? The chicken empada, shrimp, codfish, pizza, and our special vegetarian empada — all handcrafted and frozen for convenience, ready to bake and enjoy. The crowd loved them, and the energy at the fair was amazing. We had a total sell-out, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by, supported us, and gave our empadas a try. We’re proud to be bringing authentic Brazilian food to Boston.
